June weather in Malta: the month summer gathered speed

June 2025 began with comparatively fresh hours and finished on a warmer footing. The archive shows a clear temperature climb, little rain and a quieter wind profile.

The short version

  • Mosta’s June 2025 mean forecast temperature was 25.1°C, up from 20.2°C over the available May days.
  • The first ten days averaged 23.3°C and the last ten 26.8°C.
  • Seven days reached 30°C. The complete rain series contained just 1.4 mm, while no date reached Beaufort force 6 at Mosta.

Summer did not wait until the last page of the calendar

June 2025 is one of the clearest warming stories in the Weather.mt archive. The month began at a lower temperature level and finished noticeably warmer. It also contained very little forecast rain at Mosta and a less active wind picture than the spring months before it. Summer was not simply present; it was gathering speed.

The complete 30-day Mosta series averaged 25.1°C. The average daily high was 28.5°C and the average daily low 21.8°C. That puts June well above May’s covered-days mean of 20.2°C and gives the month an outdoor rhythm much closer to summer than to early spring.

There is no June 2024 comparison in the saved archive, so the main numerical story is June 2025 and its position between May and July. Within that story, the differences between the opening and closing parts of the month are particularly useful. A single June average conceals quite a lot of movement.

From a fresh early hour to a 31-degree afternoon

The lowest hourly value at Mosta was 17.2°C on the morning of June 1. The highest was 31.4°C on June 29. Those dates sit near opposite ends of the month, neatly illustrating the wider rise shown by the daily means.

Seven days reached at least 30°C. That makes hotter afternoons a recurring part of the June series, but not the condition recorded on every date. The average daily high of 28.5°C is a useful way to keep both the generally warm background and the hotter interruptions in view.

The low end of the daily range changed the experience too. As overnight temperatures rise, an early start no longer guarantees the same freshness found at the very beginning of the month. Check the hours you actually plan to use rather than borrowing June 1’s minimum for a late-June outing. The calendar has already moved on, even if the packing list has not.

The month warmed in three fairly clear stages

The first ten days averaged 23.3°C at Mosta. The middle ten averaged about 25.3°C, and the final ten averaged 26.8°C. The difference between the opening and closing groups was around 3.5°C, a substantial shift over the course of one month.

This is a case where the shape of the chart adds something important to the summary. June’s monthly mean sits between the cooler opening and warmer finish, but it is not a particularly precise description of either. Someone visiting early in the month could reasonably report a different temperature experience from someone arriving near the end.

The increase was not a guarantee that every individual day was warmer than the previous one. The daily line still moves up and down. The useful pattern is the higher level across successive parts of the month. Summer’s arrival was visible in the overall progression, with plenty of ordinary day-to-day detail along the way.

The beginning and end make a useful pair

June 1 and June 29 are worth opening side by side in the archive. The first contains the 17.2°C low; the second the 31.4°C high. They illustrate different ends of the daily cycle as well as different points in the month, so compare the same hour too if you want to see how the afternoon itself changed.

June 20 adds another kind of example: its complete daily rain amount was 1.1 mm, the largest in a month whose total was only 1.4 mm. It is a small amount in absolute terms, yet it supplied most of the month’s forecast rain at Mosta.

Together those dates show why a good archive article needs more than one extreme. The warmest afternoon helps tell the heat story, the opening low captures the earlier freshness, and the rain date explains the small monthly total. None needs to become a sensational weather record to be worth a closer look.

A small total, concentrated into a small interruption

The complete Mosta rain series added up to 1.4 mm. Only one date reached the 1 mm threshold: June 20, at 1.1 mm. The remaining amounts were small enough that rain was a minor feature of this particular month’s forecast picture.

The rainfall chart is correspondingly quiet. That is useful information in itself, provided it is kept at the right scale. It describes this Mosta series and does not claim that every shoreline or every hour around the islands had identical conditions. Small local showers can be missed by a simple monthly label.

For practical planning, the contrast with May is striking. The covered May days contained 28.2 mm, dominated by one substantial episode; June’s full 30 days contained much less. In a future June forecast, still check any available rain signal, but give temperature, exposure and timing their share of attention too. This month’s archive is a story of growing warmth, not a story organised around the umbrella.

The average breeze was quieter than in spring

Average hourly wind speed at Mosta was 3.6 m/s. The highest hourly value was 6.9 m/s on June 3, equivalent to Beaufort force 4. No date reached force 6 in this series, unlike the stronger spells present in March, April and May.

That does not remove the need to check the sea or the exposure of a particular route. It simply describes a quieter local wind profile across the month. A regional wave forecast can contain information the land wind series does not, and an afternoon breeze may still change the appeal of one side of an island.

The quieter average also helps explain why temperature is such a prominent part of this June story. The month’s warming is not accompanied here by repeated strong-wind interruptions at Mosta. For an outdoor day, think about when to take the longer exposed stretch and when to use a shaded or sheltered stop. A gentle breeze is welcome company; it is not a substitute for planning the warmer hours.

Between May’s spring warmth and July’s hotter background

Mosta’s available May days averaged 20.2°C, June’s full series 25.1°C and July’s 27.2°C. The increase into June was therefore larger than the further increase into July. June did much of the work of moving the 2025 archive into its summer temperature range.

The average daily high rose from 23.0°C in May to 28.5°C in June, then 30.1°C in July. Overnight conditions followed too: June’s average daily low of 21.8°C sits between May’s 17.8°C and July’s 24.4°C. That progression matters for the feel of the whole day, not just its warmest hour.

The other June points show the same broadly warm seasonal picture. Sliema averaged 25.7°C, Marsaxlokk and Comino about 25.8°C, and Victoria 24.2°C. The table keeps the point names attached to those figures. For a particular visit, the actual local forecast and exposure still matter more than a small place-to-place difference in a monthly mean.

Plan the warmer hours as deliberately as the cooler ones

For a June day out, look at the hourly temperature curve before fixing the order of activities. Put a longer exposed walk where the conditions suit it, and leave room for shade, a slower stop or an indoor visit during the warmer part of the day. The late-month profile deserves a different plan from the cooler opening days.

If a boat trip or a beach visit is part of the schedule, check wind and waves separately from the air temperature. June’s quiet Mosta wind series is useful historical context, but it does not decide the conditions of your crossing. Look at the return hours as well as the departure, and keep practical alternatives available.

The main June 2025 lesson is the pace of the change. The temperature rose substantially across the month while rain remained a small feature and stronger winds were absent from the Mosta series. Treat June as a developing summer month, with dates that deserve individual attention. Summer did not arrive with a single theatrical entrance; it kept turning the thermostat a little further.
