Begin with the route and the hours
Identify departure, time on the water, arrival and the return before comparing forecasts. Conditions along a route may differ from a sheltered departure point.
Read the available fields
- Forecast wind speed and direction, with gusts considered separately where available.
- Regional wave height and direction.
- Wave period, visibility and other relevant information from sources that supply them.
- Forecast issue time, valid time, location and any missing-data notice.
A model point is not a harbour inspection
Weather.mt’s regional marine values should not be treated as measurements at a harbour entrance, landing or narrow passage. Read the forecast in the context of coastal exposure and current local information.
Compare the outward and return forecasts
Inspect changes in wind direction and wave height, rather than only the largest number or the departure hour. Recheck the current forecast and relevant notices before setting out.
Keep preparation wider than the forecast
A forecast does not inspect a vessel, its equipment or the people aboard. Check current maritime notices and applicable requirements through the relevant authority. A passenger should follow the operator’s current route and service information.
