Use the season to plan, then check the dates
Seasonal patterns help with packing and choosing activities, but individual weeks can differ. Check a current forecast before making plans that depend on the weather.
Winter
Plan for changeable weather, wind and rain as well as brighter intervals. Read the hourly forecast rather than interpreting one rain symbol as continuous rain all day. Check marine conditions separately before a crossing.
Spring
Walking and sightseeing plans need attention to wind, rain and changing temperatures. Air and water warm at different rates, so a warm day on land does not establish the temperature or conditions in the sea.
Summer
Heat and exposure become central to planning outdoor time. Check the hourly temperature and wind, arrange water and shade, and remember that sunny weather does not establish calm seas.
Autumn
Read the forecast for changes through the day, including wind and rain. Sea-surface temperature is separate from the conditions at a beach or the suitability of a boat trip.
